THE DISSOLVING PLASTIC BAG

Saturday, February 27th, 2010 by Jon

From a range of environmentally minded packaging designed by Cyberpac. When the bag in this film dissolves all that is left is the printing ink, and apparently the water is drinkable once the bag has dissolved. The range is called Harmless and champions other forward thinking environmental packaging.

With the launch of Apple’s latest product this week I thought it was appropriate to post this. Concept by Mr A. Bainbridge it featured in TDOD issue 6 which was sent out in PDF format before the creation of this site. Mr Bainbridge explains:

The new junior iSlate from the Apple Corporation.

“This retro model laptop is wireless, has unlimited memory and comes with an authentic oak frame finish. A radical departure for Apple, this late Victorian/early Edwardian style model bucks the trend and is “a breath of fresh air”, designed to counter Apple’s normal state of the art, smug, style conscious image. The price is expected to be a competitive 3 shillings and thr’pence.”

Greta Corke, one of the co-founders of DIY KYOTO and co-designer of ‘Wattson’, the personal energy monitor got in touch with TDOD about their product.

With her business partners Richard and Jon, they are all graduates from the ROYAL COLLEGE OF ART. Greta explains…

“Wattson is a real time monitor showing you how much electricity you are using at home and also how much you are spending on money. The way it shows the information is very simple but yet effective. We now have grounds based on actual data that an average saving of 20% has been achieved by our users. Which is fantastic news and shows how important communication is.”

Have a further gander here.

batenburgh

Battenberg – the cake with its own distinctive corporate colours. The origin of the name is not clear, but one theory claims that the cake was created in honour of the marriage of Queen Victoria’s (Sponge) granddaughter to Prince Louis of Battenberg. Each of the four squares representing each of the four Battenberg princes: Louis, Alexander, Henry & Francis Joseph.

Design For Life
If you have missed any of these episodes you really should catch them here, especially if you are a student of design. A real eye opener with a not so impressed Philippe Starck threatening to “Kill” his students in Episode 3.

In an effort to find a new generation of British design talent, Philippe Starck, one of the world’s best-known product designers, invites 12 hopefuls to a school of design he has set up in Paris. Over coming weeks, he will whittle them down until one fortunate student wins the opportunity of a lifetime – to work alongside the master for six months at his agency in the French capital.

STEVE JOBS DEMOS APPLE MACINTOSH 1984

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009 by Mike Rigby

That sucker has always known how to sell – whipping up a Beatles-esque frenzy with nothing more than a basic slide show presentation. It’s easy to forget how revolutionary it must have been at the time.
