Last year we launched a new brand for Alzheimer’s Australia. The disease is already Australia’s third biggest killer – and yet – no one is even talking about it. By 2020 it threatens to kill more Australians than cancer and there is currently no cure. The new brand is designed to start a grassroots movement that can not only create awareness, but mobilise an entire nation to generate the funding to find a cure.

Here’s a short film of the brand launch – a 500 person protest on the steps of Parliament House – to fight for $500m worth of extra funding and support from the government for people living with the disease.

Join the fight at fightdementia.org

A lovely little video by Sean Ohlenkamp

“There’s nothing quite like a real book.”
“By the time those words bring the curtain down on Sean Ohlenkamp’s magical video, “The Joy of Books,” even the most tech-savvy readers will want to put down their e-readers and stop and think about the pleasure to be found in traditional books.

The art director at the Toronto-based ad agency Lowe Roche recently teamed up with the local T.O. bookstore ‘Type Books’ to create this stop-motion video tribute to the printed page.

The final film, which is less than two minutes in length, plays out with delightful wonder — so much so, in fact, that this ode to the pleasure of paper books scored 27,000 views after it was posted on Monday on YouTube. It has since gone viral, amassing over 1 million views.”

The Cull is a short film directed by Johnathan Harris.

It is the latest short film produced by UCLan’s Chris Leonard, Lecturer in Film Production and has proved to be a real hit with fans of Vimeo, attracting over 20,000 views in just two days.

Described as ‘beautiful, austere, horrifying and heartbreaking’. It has been nominated for Best British Short Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Short synopsis
“Paddy, honour-bound after the death of his father, is committed to maintaining his family’s farming traditions. But when his only son, William [14] shows no sign of following suit, Paddy fears the legacy will be lost forever. Convinced that he can change William’s sensibilities, Paddy engages William in increasingly challenging farm work. But as Paddy’s relationship with the adolescent William deteriorates, Paddy pushes his son one step too far, with devastating consequences.”

I have watched some amazing film recently, documenting the diverse planet we live on. They are so well produced and shot that I thought they were worth posting.

Firstly, is the usual “Life in a day” where thousands of filmmakers around the world recorded videos of their lives on July 24, 2010. A cinematic experiment to document a single day on earth.

It is creative, emotive and contains hundreds of beautifully shot clips. Really worth a watch.

Click the here to see the whole film.

They are now looking for film makers to record footage for “Britain in a day” on satursday 12 November 2011. If you are interested go to Britain in a Day.

Another incredible program to hit the tv recently is the BBC’s Frozen planet.
It is packed with absolutely amazing scenes, brilliantly shot, with lots of never seen before footage. The programs also shows at the end how some of the scenes were filmed. You can watch on the iplayer by clicking here. Incredible.

This year as part of the season launch for 2012, we shot a trailer, featuring some of the cast from the various plays. Our ongoing relationship with Griffin is tremendously enjoyable, and has helped to raise their subscriptions by 65%, and transition them from being a small fringe operation to be the third most recognised theatre in Sydney. Nice work by Joao Perez, Annah Brocklebank and Andrew Droog. You can buy tickets here.
