WRIGHT PRIZE

Richard Wright has won this years Turner Prize. The creator of a subtle and unashamedly beautiful fresco in gold leaf has been named the winner of this year’s most prestigious UK art prize. Glasgow-based Richard Wright, 49, used the age-old, painstaking techniques of the old masters to make his glistening wall painting for the Turner prize exhibition at Tate Britain in London. And yet when the show closes on 3 January 2010, it will simply be painted over in white emulsion and lost forever. (Silk or Matt?)

And finally Ben Tustin, Mat Taylor and Ruth Weston for the KPMG brief. The brief was to produce a large scale artwork for KPMG, a financial company. The idea involved LED panels echoing weather  patterns outside of the building.

THANKS DAD!

Congratulations to the 4 D&AD Black pencil winners and all the yellow pencil winners. Unfortunately Griff’s music video had to settle for a nomination, still a massive achievement in a highly competitive category. You can read a more comprehensive review on thought for the week (if you haven’t already). It’s probably worth taking a moment to appreciate that BMW Kinetic sculpture again. Amazing.

DESIGN WEEK AWARDS

Friday, March 6th, 2009 by Mike Rigby

Big congratulations go to friend of TDOD Oli Maltby, for picking up a coveted metal light bulb for The Chase London’s in-store promotional vinyls for the Royal Mail Yearpack. Lovely simple idea, well executed. An award wining formula if ever there was one. See the other winners here.
