Friend of TDOD Craig Oldham (working at Manchester’s Music) has just released this publication featuring 10 short essays on Graphic Design. It’s an educational day-glo booklet, namely for students of Graphic Design, and is available from his site.

Craig explains:

Anyone who knows me will be the first to tell you that I’ve always got something to say. And by ’something to say’ they probably mean that I’m always whining about something—moan, grumble, hiss, whinge. That’s me. I do it for everything, so why stop at Graphic Design? Answer is, I didn’t.
10 Penneth is an accompaniment to a lecture series that I have given to students of Graphic Design and takes the form of ten (for lack of a better word—and I can’t understand why there isn’t one) maxims. These maxims take the form of short essays, each one being a lesson that’s an important thing to learn in order to help the students become better Graphic Designers, and in order for them to better understand the profession in which they are entering.

Colosseo: Reimagining the Roman Coliseum with type (Canon 7D) from Cameron Moll on Vimeo.

Over the course of 12 months, this artwork was handcrafted character by character, totaling roughly 250 hours of work from start to finish. Characters from the Goudy Trajan and Bembo Pro typefaces form the Coliseum (or Colosseum), also known as today as Colosseo (Italian).

PEOPLE OF PRESTON

help-wanted

My name is Elizabeth and I am studying Illustration at UCLAN, currently in my third year.

As part of my final project, I intend to illustrate Preston through stories told by people who have spent time here, as a resident, student, visitor or other.

In order to do this I need your stories! Whether sad, funny, good or bad, surprising and/or interesting or just your experience(s) of the city. One word or a thousand, a sentence, phrase, or poem, anything.

As these stories will be the basis of my illustrations, I need your help. I am extremely thankful for your time and if you could get in contact with me this would be wonderful!

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks in advance,
Elizabeth Dunning 3rd year Illustration University of Central Lancashire Preston

In the 1970’s & 80’s the youth of our nation were politically aware and had opinions. They were pro -active and got involved through various causes in voicing these opinions and trying to change society and the world for the better. They were idealistic, pro-active and in a constant battle with some form of  authority. Today we have facebook and all is well with the world?
