50 YEARS OF SITTING

Posted by Mark Arrowsmith

As part of a teaser for this years degree show (10th June), a few students and I will be posting work featured in this years display. To kick start here is Alex Creamers Honours project celebrating the Polyprop Chairs 50th anniversary.

Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the polyprop chair. First designed by Robin Day it has stood the test of time for 5 decades. There will be very few people in the world that have not sat on a polyprop chair. However even with its iconic design status it is often left in the shadows. I therefore created a mock exhibition to celebrate its anniversary at the Design Museum London. The concept accentuates the aperture at the back of the chairs as well as celebrating the environment it has become famous for.
