YOU TOOK MY NAME

Posted by Jennie Spiller

The trend for stripped back, minimization of brands & logos continues….

Most recently with Manchester based creative agency, Dorothy. They are creating an ongoing series of paintings which display corporate logos but without any type or lettering, leaving beautiful flat colourful shapes behind.

These examples follow on from other similar examples of simplifying brands that I have posted before such as ‘Short hand logos’ & ‘minimalism’.
I find it interesting seeing brands stripped right back, but if they were all to do this, I’d imagine the world of design could start to look rather dull.

However, it seems to be a growing trend ever since Turner Duckworth did it with Coke.** (see below)

I personally think it works brilliantly with long standing iconic brands with own-able iconic marks, but Im not convinced everyone should hop on the bandwagon.

Well put Jen, I totally agree that not all work as well as the iconic brands. I also agree with the fact that the world of design will start to become a boring place if all branding was minimal. Maybe a new trend will be set?!
