Naoshima is a small fishing island off the southern coast of Japan on the Seto Inland Sea. During the 1990s, a wealthy Japanese textbook publishing corporation partnered with architect Tadao Ando with a vision to create an ‘Art Island’. 20 years later, the island features thousands of works and two state of the art museums. Featuring some of the worlds most innovative practitioners of sculpture, painting and multimedia.
The island was featured in Novembers issue of Creative Review. One for the ‘to do’ list me thinks. Wikipedia entry here.
