ED CHAPMAN

Posted by Jennie Spiller

Continuing from my post yesterday, I have come across another artist who creates portraits using different objects – Ed Chapman from Manchester.

“Ed Chapman is one of the UK’s top mosaic artists. In his instantly recognisable style he achieves incredibly detailed results, painstakingly creating his subjects using hundreds of fragments of ceramic tile, vitreous glass, paper or even sugar cubes.”

The one-off portrait of Hendrix is made from more than 5000 plectrums donated by guitar makers Fender, whose guitars Hendrix could often be seen playing, burning and sometimes destroying.

The portrait went on display this month at Abbey Road Studios in London as part of Cancer Research’s Sound & Vision auction.

Nice portraits. However I think Sir Alex should have been made out of two pound coins, not pennies!
