SPACES

Posted by Mike Rigby

I’ve been collecting interesting examples of retail spaces on my recent travels and I thought I would share a few of them with you (apologies for shaky iphone pictures throughout)

……………….

All Saints, Manchester.

Provenience is a big thing in branding: in other words, the story of where a product comes from (Evian comes from the French alps…etc). The sewing machines, as well as being striking and unusual, are also a reminder that All Saints started life in Spitalfields, the historic tailors’ and silk weavers’ part of London. Provenience, with a little imagination.

……………….

Louis Vuitton, London.

Louis Vuitton is the worlds number one luxury brand (source: Interbrands best global brands). It’s got there by taking the traditional idea of how a luxury brand communicates – retrained tone of voice, soft focus product photography, A-list celebrity endorsement, serif type face – and thrown it all out of the window. Adopting a much more expressive – and in this case – surreal approach to it’s communications and retail spaces. A brand that is always leading the avant-garde of fashion without compromising traditional craftsmanship. I don’t understand what the giant ostrich’s are all about, but I don’t need to, I like it…

……………….

Apple store, Shanghai.

I know this is an obvious inclusion but the (newly built) Apple store in Shanghai’s (newly built) CBD is impressive, not only for it’s location and striking facade, but for it’s consistency on the interior. No other brand manages to pull together all of it’s communications so well. From it’s products and packaging to it’s advertising and retail spaces.

……………….

Victor Churchill, Sydney.

133-year-old ‘Victor Churchill‘ is Australia’s largest purveyor of premium quality meats. A wonderfully inventive space designed by Dreamtime Australia Design. Enough said, just look at the pictures…

  1. JD says:

I saw the All Saints store in Manchester a couple of months ago after a trip back home from Sydney and loved it. First thought – where do they source all those Singer sewing machines? Their Camden and Spitalfields store dont play up the sewing machine shop front (last time I was there) but without seeing any obvious signage their store always resonate the All Saints brand. The fit-outs are great. (Still dubious about the amount they charge for a leather jacket though) JD.

Hey JD. Yeah, I don’t know? it must cost a fortune (like the clothes). They are just about to roll out across the states apparently, with 50 stores planned over the next few years.

  3. They have the sewing machines in the Oxford Street store in London too. It looks awesome!
I’ve just been to take some pics of the Levis Store on Regent Street. Some Lovely stuff going on in their store too!
