… OR WERE THEY!?

When we think of setting type we tend to think of staring at our mac screens, blurring our eyes, a lot of alt + left/right arrow keys, a few clicks of the return button and some backspaces or edit undos– and this is when it’s done quickly! It can take a long time to get type looking just right… but imagine how long it will have taken these guys to do it all by hand. This was only 30-40 years ago… imagine what typesetting might involve 30-40 years from now.
