One of the most valuable (and daunting) parts of a students progression from education to working in industry can be the experience of ‘doing’ a placement. Over thirty years ago UCLAN at Preston helped transform design education by pioneering the first sandwich course in the UK. This effectively gave industry an active role in the training of young designers and art directors.
As a new section to TDOD we have recently asked returning 4th year placement students to share some of their thoughts, experiences and hopefully give advice to those of you who may well be looking to follow the same path. Many thanks go to the following students for participating and taking the time to answer our questions, Mark Arrowsmith, Alex Creamer, Sarah Hardman, Carl Jeffers, Lucy Monk, Megan Raby, Peggy Soteriou, Matt Taylor, Ben Tustin and Ruth Weston.
