MIRRORED BEAM OF LIGHT

Pretty damn good.
Surely this is a Bainbridge idea?
Ted at 999 sent in La Liga club Gatafe’s new kit design. It features some not so subtle burger king sponsorship. It’s a little rediculous, but the idea is quite amusing. Imagine instead for example that you had Theiry Henry’s face printed on the inside of his Barca shirt? Or Torres on his LFC shirt? Kids would love that.

I just finished reading ‘Nudge’ by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein.
There’s some interesting ideas in there about how people interact with design and, in particular, how it can influence their behaviour and decision making.

Examples of nudges include a realistic fly sticker placed in a urinal helping reduce spillage by as much as 85%, a change in the law to ‘presumed consent’ dramatically increasing organ donations and healthy eating encouraged in schools by placing fruit more prominently than chocolate.
They call it liberal paternalism, but it basically boils down to designing things with a view to assisting people in making the ‘best choice’ in a given situation while still granting them free choice.
It does go on a bit and it is fairly US-centric but there some interesting stuff in there. It’s also a little worrying if you consider the application of such subconsciously coercive techniques by big business and governments (Obama’s a fan apparently, as well as our own George Osborne).
Incidentally, there’s an interesting article offering a counter argument to the authors viewpoint here.
Some slightly lazy blogging on my behalf, but hey it’s Monday Morning.
There’s a Great post over on a great blog – Design Assembly – regarding Anthony Gormleys idea for the 4th Plinth project in Trafalger Square. In a nut shell, 2,400 members of the great British public, chosen at random by computer, get 1 hour to do anything they like (within the law).
I think this is the most interesting thing to come out of the plinth project yet (which in it’s self is such a brilliant idea). You can sign up for the lottery draw here. I’d love to have a go, gets you thinking… what would you do?

Open up a £1 M&S cheese sandwich and marvel at the slight of hand and eye.
By simply shearing a square, in this case cheese, along 45 degrees and then slightly off setting the contents it gives the illusion of having more filling when displayed on the shelf.
That’s marketing for you.
