So the D&AD awards have been announced today. We got a couple of projects ‘in the book’ here at True North. Congratulations to Ady Bibby and Matt Maurer for their work on the Royal Mail yearbook and also Stuart Hendry’s identity (Photographer). Congratulations to Olly, Craig and everyone at The Chase for their 4 in book projects. But the biggest pat on the back must go to our friend – and sometime Preston lecturer – Griff. See Billy’s post below for the details. Best of luck Griff.
Royal Mail Year Book cover and a few spreads

Congratulations go to friend of TDOD, Griff, for a D&AD nomination with UTR’s work on ‘The Cinematic Orchestra’ video ‘To Build A Home’.
Shot in 2 parts some of you will recognise the location and ‘Head of catering’ in the behind the scenes footage here.

Friend of TDOD and current Creative Director at Landor Sydney, Jason Little, has been documenting some of the studios recent output. Jason and his team consistently produce good work featuring a strong emphasis on well crafted typography. Here’s a few of my highlights. Thanks to Jason and Landor for sharing, you can see more here

Following on from a post last month about web camera trickery. Here are some more from krazydad.com. (You will need the Flash plugin).
ASCII camera. Lets you take a picture and copy the ASCII image text to a software package of your choice.
Kaleido camera. Does what it says on the tin. Anybody got anymore? I like it, but not a lot.
Robbie Laughton shares some of his favourite projects and a few infamous adventures in our latest Preston Profile. Needing no introduction (although I’ll do one anyway) Robbie is a true industry heavy weight, having named, created, implemented and managed some of the worlds most recognisable (and valuable) brands. Brands like orange, 3, egg, channel 5 and talk talk to name but a few. Former Executive Creative Director at Wolff Olins, Robbie is the current Executive Creative Director and one of the founders of DAVE. Thanks to Robbie for being so helpful and for his fantastic contribution… Read on
Simon Egli (aka S1M) sent us a sample of his latest project, zweiPhone, which adds a notalgic twist to your iPhone. zweiPhone is a collection of stickers of old mobile phones that can be applied to the back of Apple’s ubiquitous product…
Egli’s idea, he explains, is to add some “classic design history” to the rise of the “blank and impersonal” iPhone. Plus, using a sticker of one of the more battered models, might even deter nasty types from nicking your prized possession.
More info at zweiphone.com, where you can also purchase a set of 14 stickers (for both black and white iPhones or iPod Touch devices) for $14.
