MUNDANE

Here we feature the image of a wall mounted hair drier. The picture was taken in a guest house somewhere in Shropshire. The banality of the item coupled with its dated and tawdry setting were truly underwhelming and so was the breakfast… if I remember rightly.

The Big Picture is a project to create the biggest photo album in the West Midlands where the people there submitted over 110,000 photos. The photos are then used to create a huge record breaking photo mosaic the size of three tennis courts which was unveiled at Birmingham’s Thinktank at Millenium Point on 23rd August 2008.

British artist Helen Marshall is the creative mind behind the project where she worked with photo mosaic specialists PollyTiles to realize the enormous image.

There’s loads of good stuff on Stefans site, but this Q&A on being

ITA

ita-example

Can anyone remember this? ITA was an experiment carried out in selected primary schools in the late 60’s and early 70’s. It was a phonetic alphabet (American in origin) and an attempt to teach very young children how to spell things as they sound. It failed and was pulled by educational authorities when they realised it was having the opposite effect.

An absolutley barmy concept.
