The image below is a free postcard that was picked up on the day of the 9/11 attacks.
On any other day you would have thought nothing of it. However the image of a plane and the abstract shapes of the twin towers in the background coupled with the title New York, was a little too much to compute at the time. Even now the recipient is still a little baffled by the coincidence.
The meanings we bestow and project onto things, the way we read into images and the timing of events is encapsulated within this small piece of ephemera.
